YOU MAY:
- Lead five hopeful souls 2,040 miles from Independence, Missouri, to the Willamette Valley in 1848
- Pick your profession: the banker rides easy, the carpenter fixes what breaks, the farmer earns triple the score
- Outfit your wagon: oxen, food, clothing, ammunition, spare parts. Skimp and you'll feel it
- Ford the river, caulk and float, or pay the ferryman. Choose wrong and pay dearly
- Hunt bison, deer, and rabbits in the sparse pixel woods. Shoot straight or starve
- Survive blizzards, snakebites, thieves, broken axles, and your own optimism
- Die historically, share your gravestone, and chase your own best runs
- Plays 100% offline. No ads. No accounts. No subscriptions. The full trail is free; the Trail Pass is a one-time extra for people who want it harder
IF YOU REMEMBER THE COMPUTER LAB
If you played The Oregon Trail on a beige school computer in the 1980s or '90s, you already know how this goes: buy too few oxen, push the pace, lose someone at the Snake River, and swear you'll do better next time. The Oregano Trail is a loving tribute to that kind of game, built new for the phone in your pocket.
The look is the real thing: six-color pixel art, a chunky terminal font, gentle scanlines, and sound synthesized as square waves the old way. Under it is a trail that fights fair. Every setback can be survived with the right supplies, the pace you set and the rations you choose really matter, and rivers get safer if you are patient enough to wait.
New to the trail? Start with the how-to-play guide, follow the route in the landmarks guide, or read the FAQ. Teaching westward expansion? See the page for teachers.
THE TRAIL PASS (OPTIONAL)
The whole trail is free, start to finish. The Trail Pass is a one-time purchase for players who want more of a fight:
- Seasons. Choose your start month and race the snow. December closes the passes
- Trading. Barter with travelers on the trail and haggle at the forts
- The Hard Road. 1848 scoring by every survivor's health, steeper prices, and no early-trail mercy
SUPPORT
Wagon trouble? Questions, bug reports, and tales from the trail:
Include your device model and iOS version — it helps the repair go faster than an axle swap.
- No sound? Check the silent switch on the side of your iPhone — the square waves respect it.
- Lost progress? The game auto-saves your journey on-device. Deleting the app deletes the save — the trail keeps what it takes.
- Game too hard? That's the 1848 experience. Buy more clothing and spare parts than you think you need.
PRIVACY POLICY
Effective September 11, 2026
The short version: the app sends anonymous play statistics, and you can turn them off. Nothing that identifies you ever leaves the wagon.
The Oregano Trail ("the app") is a fully offline game:
- Anonymous play statistics. The app sends a small number of usage events — app opened, landmark reached, how a run ended — to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service. Each event carries a random per-install identifier that is hashed on your device before it is sent and cannot be linked to you. No name, email, location, contacts, or advertising identifier is ever collected.
- You can turn it off. Settings → Share Usage Data. When it is off, nothing is sent.
- Offline play. The game itself runs entirely on your device; the only network use is those statistics, and the game works the same without a connection.
- Local saves only. Game progress, settings, and high scores are stored only on your device and are removed if you delete the app.
- No ads, no tracking SDKs. The app contains no advertising and no cross-app tracking libraries. TelemetryDeck is the only analytics SDK.
- No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to log into.
- The Trail Pass. The optional one-time purchase is handled entirely by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. The app records only whether the pass is owned, on your device, and sends one anonymous "purchase completed" event to TelemetryDeck. No receipt, price, or payment detail ever reaches us.
- Sharing is yours. If you choose to share a result card, the app hands the image to the standard iOS share sheet — nothing is sent anywhere unless you send it.
- App Store reviews. The app may occasionally ask if you'd like to rate it, using Apple's built-in review prompt. Apple handles that interaction under its own privacy policy.
The app is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this page with a new effective date.
